I just attended another boring presentation that went nowhere. Although I liked the presenter, his presentation was just another information dump that had no meaning.
The first thing to do when preparing a presentation is to clearly define your goal. In other words, what do you want your audience to think, feel, or do differently after your presentation? Then, wrap everything around that goal!

A presentation need to do three things:
Educate
Entertain
Explain

Fred, I appreciate your thoughts. One has to wonder how others are satisfied with "just getting through" a presentation. When we present, we must keep in mind that we are stewards of valuable resources. Think about the salaries in the room, the overhead for the facilities, etc. If we do not provide a solid return on that investment, then we are wasting(perhaps even stealing) those precious resources.
